Тhe opening of exposition «Time of Changes» was held in the museum, timed to coincide with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Kazakhstan Republic’s Independence on November 29 at 10.00 o'clock.

The exposition created within the framework of the Museum Associations project, reveals a difficult period in the history of our state, preceding the declaration of Kazakhstan’s Independance, named the period of Rebuilding in the USSR in 1985-91 and subsequent events: the first democratic elections of the First President of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev, and the first steps of the formation of a young republic.

The background of the exhibition is banners with images typical of the rebuilding period: rallies and queues in half-empty shops. Documentary and photographic evidence of the rebuilding period is placed on graphic pillars symbolizing the basis left over from the collapsed Soviet Union. Each document is a reflection of one of the many events of the rebuilding period - the anti-alcohol campaign, the withdrawal of the LCSM from Afghanistan, the Nevada-Semey movement, etc. - all this stirred and deeply touched the souls of Kazakhstan people who believe in change. Documentary sources also confirm voluminous exhibits: a moonshine still, a scenario of a non-alcoholic wedding, ankle boots of an internationalist warrior, a dosimeter, a string bag with scarce goods, coupons for food from the funds of the Museum.

The entire exposition is permeated with lines on which the words, important for that era, “Rebuilding. Publicity. Acceleration”.

The final section of the exposition documents the historical events from the moment of the Kazakh SSR’s President post establishment on April 24, 1990 and until the first democratic elections in Kazakhstan on December 1, 1991.

The chronicle of the event is also presented on the example of Temirtau city: the originals of documents from the funds of the Temirtau Museum are posted: the election program of N.А. Nazarbayev, propaganda leaflets of the Karaganda metallurgical factory, city newspapers calling to take part in the elections and support N.A. Nazarbayev.

The final part of the documentary exposition contains the ballot paper dated December 1, 1991 and the text of the oath of the First President of Kazakhstan.

A separate object of the exposition is a booth for holding elections. The interactive zone will allow young visitors - future voters to get acquainted with the rules of the elections.

The exposition is not just a collection of documents and exhibits related to the 1985-91 era, but is also equipped with information blocks that have a large educational load: on the basis of the exposition, history lessons can be held for high school pupils and students.
