An online exposition «Collectible coins of proof quality» was opened, timed to coincide with the Day of the national currency - tenge and the 30th anniversary of the Kazakhstan Republic’s Independence within the framework of the «Exhibit of the Month» project on November 15, 2021.

The decree of the Kazakhstan Republic’s President “On the introduction of the national currency of the Kazakhstan Republic” was signed on November 12, 1993.

There are two forms of cash used in Kazakhstan: banknotes and coins.

The banknote factory of Kazakhstan began operations in 1995. Today tenge is rightfully considered the most technologically advanced and beautiful currency in the world. Kazakhstan bonns have been awarded the title of «Best Banknote of the Year» three times in the annual competition of the International Banknote Community.

In 1992, on the basis of the Ulba Metallurgical Factory in the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk, the Kazakhstan Mint was founded.

In 1993 the Mint produced the first bargaining chips, and in 1999 the first collectible proof coin in silver.

“Proof” is the highest quality minting of coins and medals. The main distinguishing feature of the “proof” coin is the combination of a smooth mirror surface of the field and a contrasting matte relief. The production of coins of this quality requires individual minting using special equipment and technologies.

Kazakhstan is the exclusive rightholder for the production of tantalum and silver coins. Tantalum is a rare earth metal with a melting point of 3000 ° C and is highly resistant to corrosion. It is actively used in the aerospace industry, in connection with which it was decided to devote the first coins with inserts of this metal to the space theme.

Kazakhstan collectible coins are not only an example of high technologies and thoughtful design, they are the history and culture of our country, embodied in metal.

The opening of the exhibition was held live on Instagram.
