The Temirtau city Museum opened the «Whip» exhibition online as part of the Exhibit of the Month project On January 17, 2025, .
The ethnographic collection of the Temirtau Museum contains one of the household multifunctional objects, which is simultaneously a weapon, a symbol of power and protection from evil spirits. In different nations, it sounds like a whip, a lash, a knout. This is a kamcha (Whip), which is a work of art by masters of the Kazakh ethnic group.
Kamcha occupied a special place in the cultural and everyday life of the Kazakh people.
The kamcha presented in the exposition of the Exhibit of the Month project is handmade from genuine leather. It is woven from a braid of six strips of leather, at the end of the handle there is a metal insert. The history of the kamcha is unknown; it was approximately handed over to the museum funds in the 1980s.
The centuries-old history of kamcha is inextricably linked with the traditions and rituals that formed the way of life of nomads. Everyday objects of the material world, concealing a huge history, have retained their significance in the life of the Kazakh people to this day.
