The opening of the “Unset Point” exposition devoted to the Victory Day took place in the “Memory” hall on May 2.
More than seven decades have passed since the end of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. However, the accounting of irretrievable combat losses of servicemen who died on the battlefield, died from wounds and diseases, and went missing has not yet been put to rest.
In the 2000s, with the expansion of the possibility of remote work with military archives, the Temirtau City Museum continued search work aimed at restoring the names of our dead fellow countrymen.
At the moment, according to the personal lists of irretrievable losses and funeral books published on the website of the Memorial OBD, 48 previously unregistered warriors - Temirtau city’s residents have been identified.
At the moment, the total number of irretrievable losses in the Samarkand settlement is 236 people. Among them:
154 - dead on the battlefields and in hospitals
76 - missing
6 - died in captivity.
Working with archives made it possible to clarify the places of burial of our fellow countrymen. 7 Temirtau residents were identified, awarded state awards for military exploits. (Total 15)
The new data complements the information collected in the 70s of the last century by teachers and pupils of the House of Pioneers, employees of the City Military Commissariat. At that time, the collected list of dead Temirtau residents was not accurate: the data was provided by the relatives of the dead, since the archives of the Kirov district military registration and enlistment office of the city of Karaganda, which was engaged in conscription in the village of Samarkand (since 1945 - the city of Temirtau), were not preserved.
On the basis of the data found in the 1970s, at the foot of the Monument to the Soldiers of Temirtaus, memorial plates with the names of the dead were installed and a Book of Memory was published, in which 188 of our compatriots were mentioned.
However, it was obvious that the list was not complete.
The “Unset Point” exposition is the result of the search work of the Temirtau Museum of Local History to identify fellow countrymen who died during the Second World War: archival documents, fragments of funeral lists, lists of irretrievable losses, cards of prisoners of war and photographs are presented here.
The design of the exposition has become a permanent part of the Memory Hall.
The work on restoring the list of fallen front-line soldiers continues.
